Many thanks to Chris Cahillane for taking some great pictures at this month's St. Patrick's Day Parade and thanks to Diane Byrnes for taking our pictures and sending them on to the Irish Echo National Newspaper and getting great press coverage for AOH 32 (See 4 pictures below).
Nearly 30 AOH men from Allegheny County attended a retreat at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center in the Southside of Pittsburgh the weekend of February 27, 28 and March 1, 2009. This annual event for men only gets more popular every year and per Ed Blank, "No question about it, it's the most worthwhile event I attend every year!"
AOH Divison 32 had 7 members (Mickey Abbott, Ed Blank, Denny Donnelly, Pat McCann, Brian Walsh, Pat Walsh, Charlie Yankel and Denny's friend Ted Novak, who attended with our group) attend.
Many thanks to Larry Squires, the main coordinator for Allegheny County AOH who helped our many brothers experience a weekend of spiritual enlightenment and renewal. Granted, some needed it more than others (right Mickey?).
God bless everyone - it was a great weekend of brotherhood and getting closer to our faith and Lord.
Join us at the American Ukranian Club March 7 for our AOH/LAOH Division 32 St. Patrick's Day Party with Irish entertainment from Guaranteed Irish band members Jim Lamb and Paddy Folan and the Pittsburgh Police Emerald Society Pipe & Drum Band. $10 gets you delicious food and unlimited draft beer (harp or light) from 7:00 p.m. - Midnight. Enjoy a great Ham Dinner or a Beef Stew Dinner, Potato Soup and Dessert. I'm passing along the following urgent message from our good brother Tom Welch. Here it is.
Yo, everyone!
March 20 (this Thursday) is the deadline to get reservations and money to Tom Welch for the Division 32 Communion Breakfast at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 30, at John Graf's Priory on the North Side. We still have plenty of tickets for the event at which our Hibernian of the Year and our Service Award winner will be named and honored. John himself will emcee. Please consider joining us for what Father Jerry O'Shea recently identified as the most important event among our annual events - the one that welds our spiritual lives to our fraternal activities. Tickets are $24 for adults, $15 for ages 7-16 and $9 for ages 1-6. Bring your mother-in-law, your bus driver, your tax auditor. You never can tell; the chunky old fat guy wearing shades at the front table could be Jack Nicholson. Plus you cannot pay at the door - all guests must be prepaid. Email Tom or call him at 724.693.9904 if you need more information, or mail your check today to him at 325 Battery Drive North, McDonald, PA 15057.
Please get in touch with Tom ASAP because we sure hope to see you on March 30.
In another two months or so, we'll celebrate the 2nd anniversary of AOH 32's Blog and I thought it would be interesting to see how it's been received. From the looks of this chart and for our little group of about 130 Irishmen, it's been a welcome read. If you have any ideas to improve our Blog, please leave your comments. If they're smart comments and we sort of like you, we may consider them! Hah!
On Saturday, October 6th, the fine Irish ladies of LAOH Div #23, will be hosting their Ninth Annual Pub Crawl for Charity. The friends of Old St. Patrick's Church and the A.O.H. invite you to a Garden Mass Sunday, August 19th at 1:00 p.m. St. Patrick's Church is located at 17th Street and Liberty Avenue inthe Strip. The Mass will honor Our Lady of Knock, the Assumption of the Blessed Mother, and the Queenship of Mary.
Here is a widely used prayer to our Lady of Knock.
Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to your people in a time of distress and comforted them in sorrow. You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your Son, remembering His promise: "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find." Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick or lonely or depressed. Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the holy Mass. Pray for me now, and at the hour of my death. Amen. Our Lady of Knock, pray for us.

"The first fish fry was a big success. We sold out of fish, the turnout was good, both customers and workers. It was pleasing to see that nearly all of the workers showed up and some members dropped in and offered to help. We must keep up the interest.
Thanks to everyone who helped make our first effort a huge success can contact me or Ed Blank and choose a date to work. With the great turnout of workers the clean up and other chores were much easier to accomplish."
In tribute to the young and old lads - FISH FRY MONGERS - who performed brilliantly at our Fish Fry last "Fryday" I give you Dublin's Barry Dodd singing Molly Malone.
