Allegheny County AOH Stained Glass Window Gift to Pittsburgh's Old St. Patrick's Church

It's been nearly two years since the Allegheny County AOH picked up the torch for Pittsburgh's Old St. Patrick's Church and I'm happy to report that our little crusade to fund new stained glass windows of St. Partick and St. Brigid has been acheived.

Here are a few links to press coverage about our good works - two recent stories (yesterday’s Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - front page Section B; and today's Post-Gazette page A-2):

Stop by St. Patrick's soon (at the corner of Liberty Avenue and 17th Street) - you'll love it. St. Patrick's is where it all began for Pittsburgh's Irish community way back in 1808 - long before even the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Friends of Sinn Fein Fundraising in the USA

The following is a statement written by Ned McGinley, National President of the AOH in America. Feel free to post your thoughts and comments - we after all in still in America - a free country.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians in America views with disappointment the decision by the U.S. Administration to curtail fundraising in the USA by an Irish-Nationalist Party Sinn Fein.

The AOH was among the first to request that the Irish Republican Army decommission their weapons and turn to a strictly peaceful and political agenda to achieve a united Ireland. The Army did so and is now, even quoted in the IMC report, in a political mode. We have supported peace and cross community projects in the north. We feel that all parties should be able to present their message in the United States. We ask the President Bush and his envoy Mitchell Reiss to revisit their decision.

A decision like this, while allowing others to fundraise, has overturned the former even handed policy of this administration.

We continue to support Sinn Fein and their constituency in their right to refuse support for the PSNI until collusion is totally and independently investigated.

We would also thank the Irish Government for their support of the Pat Finucane family as they seek a truly independent inquiry into the collusion death of their husband and father.

Ned McGinley
National President AOH in America

St. Patrick's Day Parade - March 11

Pittsburgh's Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade takes place this Saturday March 11 at 10:00 a.m. in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Many thanks in advance to our good brother's Riley, who have made all the necessary arrangements to keep us warm and hydrated. At 8:00 a.m. until we begin to march in the parade, all are welcome to stay warm at the Epiphany School that is directly across the parking lot from the hall where we were last year. The Riley's were unable to secure the church hall this year, but they will have a room and more importantly coffee, beer and bathrooms. This will help us stay in top shape prior to the parade. Look for signs in the parking lot and you will find them. If you are marching with AOH 32, please make certain that you arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. on Colwell Street - next to Ephiphany school on the side (same as last year).

22ND ANNUAL ALL PRO PAINTERS ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARTY

The Delaney/Trant Party Van will be in the same parking space on the Boulevard of the Allies like previous years, but the ALL PRO PAINTERS' party (Noon to 6:00 p.m.) after the parade will take place at the Concordia Club, at 424 Second Avenue Carnegie, PA 15106 - 412.276.9972. As always this party is planned to have a good time at the best price in town, so come and enjoy! BRILLIANT!

A small donation of $10.00 will cover any adult and all kids get in free! On tap will be ice cold Miller Light Drafts and soda along with hot food and snacks - plus, music, dancing, 50/50 raffles and an activity table for the kids!

Here are the directions to the Concordia Club from town:
  • From Fort Pitt Bridge go into Fort Pitt Tunnels. Continue on parkway and take the Carnegie Exit (Stay to Right of Exit Ramp). The ramp will end with your first traffic light. The Northstar Dealership will be on both sides of you.
  • Continue straight on Mansfield through the next two lights. By the time you hit your fourth traffic light, Mansfield will have become Main Street and Cump's Bar will be on your left. Note: You will be riding parallel with the PAT busway on your right. Make a left onto Third Street.
  • Continue down Third Street and make a right onto Second Avenue.
  • The club is located at the very end on your right. Use the front entrance to the club at glass doors. There is street parking and a lot on the corner of 3rd Street and 2nd Street.

See you there!
