Joe Byrne in Dundalk House Arrest
Passing along the following note...
Good Morning All –
After a long 9 weeks, and 11 years after he left Ireland, Joe Byrne arrived back in Dundalk this morning. He went straight to the courthouse where he was put under house arrest until Wednesday, when he will return for his bail hearing. When you take into consideration everything that Joe and his family has been through for the past 18 months, I take this to be good news.
We will be following this case very closely and Congressman Engel has asked our Ambassador in Ireland to keep an eye on this case as well. The Irish Civil Liberties, Michael Finucane in particular, will also watch over Joe’s case.
On behalf of Joe, Eileen and Mairead Byrne, I once again would like to thank all who wrote, sent e-mails and made phone calls to try and stop this extradition. While we came up short on the extradition, we know that the nobility of the Irish character is to be never broken by temporary defeat but to come back stronger and more determined than ever.
As news becomes available, I will forward the information on.
As tomorrow is March, I would like to extend to all of you a very Healthy and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day. God Bless!
All the best –
