This week's famous Irishman is William Parsons. William Parsons 3rd Earl of Rosse (17 June 1800 – 31 October 1867) built the world's largest telescope in 1845 and it remained the world's largest for the rest of the century. Using this telescope he saw and cataloged a large number of galaxies.
James Gandon (1743 – 1823) is today recognized as one of the leading architects to have worked in Ireland in the late 18th century and early 19th century. His better known works include The Custom House, the Four Courts, King's Inns in Dublin and Emo Court in Co. Laois.
Peter Lalor (5 February 1827 – 9 February 1889) was the leader of the Eureka Stockade rebellion, one of Australia's few armed uprisings and often characterized controversially as the "birth of democracy" in Australia.
This week's famous Irishman is Phil Lynott. Phil Lynott (20 August 1949 – 4 January 1986) was an Irish singer, bassist, instrumentalist, and songwriter, who first came to prominence as the frontman of Thin Lizzy.
