Host Home Needed for Irish Student
Friends,
Next Monday, June 22, the Ireland Institute will welcome 21 young people from Counties Donegal and Tyrone to Pittsburgh as they will participate in our 62nd Wider Horizons Program. As many of you know, these programs have proven invaluable, providing disadvantaged/unemployed young people with skills for work and for life back in Ireland.
We need someone to step forward to host ONE of our participants over the next eight weeks. This 19 year old Catholic boy will intern at a local community YMCA Mondays through Thursdays. He'll attend Duquesne U. every Friday with the rest of his group. And they will participate in various evening and weekend activities organized by their Irish supervisors, with help from the Institute.
Hosts are expected to provide a bedroom; meals (per the household schedule); and a friendly support system.
Hosts receive $135 per week toward the room and board of the participant.
This group will finish its Pittsburgh program on or around Friday, August 14.
If YOU or SOMEONE YOU KNOW is interested in this opportunity to host a young person from Ireland, please contact Rob Tierney at the Ireland Institute offices, 412-394-3900.
Thanks!
Jim Lamb
PS if you expect to be out of town at anytime during this eight week period, please don't let that stop you from inquiring. We can arrange for temporary stays for participants whose hosts take vacation over the summer.
