7th Annual Irish Memorial 5K Run

Experienced runners as well as novices will gather at the Irish Memorial at Front & Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia on Sunday, April 6, and run through the streets of Old City, including some of the beautiful historic district and Penn’s Landing, and back to the majestically landscaped site of the Irish Memorial.

Runners will enjoy a fast, flat, and scenic course while supporting the beautification and maintenance of the spectacular memorial by renowned sculptor Glenna Goodacre, Philadelphia’s tribute to the Great Hunger. The run also supports the development of educational materials detailing the significance of the Memorial in American history.

The Irish Memorial is a symbol and record for generations of children of An Gora Mor, the starvation that devastated Ireland in the mid-19th century. Installed in 2003, the memorial is one of Philadelphia’s and the nation’s most treasured cultural destinations.

The 5K Run, traditionally held in March, has been moved to the first Sunday in April due to previous years’ inclement weather.

Registration starts at 7:00 a.m. $20 pre-registered and $25 on the day. The race starts at 8:30 a.m. Register online at www.active.com.
